Robots at Recess

GOALS OF ROBOTS AT RECESS
CC Shambots robotics team members from Catholic Central HS visit K-8 schools to demonstrate their competition robot and show younger students what robotics is all about. Our goal is for students, teachers and administrators to learn about STEM, FIRST Robotics and the opportunities available to them in robotics at the elementary and middle school levels (FLL and FTC) and then later in high school.

WHAT DOES THE EVENT LOOK + FEEL LIKE? Team members and mentors visit in their CC Shambots uniform and bring a competition-ready robot in the official team trailer. They spend about 30-45 minutes with each group demonstrating the robot and answering questions. CC Shambots team members talk to the students about robotics which incorporates programming, mechanical and electrical engineering, computer-aided design, business and strategy, and what they’ve learned through FIRST Robotics.

LOGISTICS Robots at Recess is held at K-8 schools during their lunch/recess period, typically in the range of 11am to 1pm. The preferred location is a large open area for the robot to drive around and shoot balls – a gymnasium works well for this. We love visiting schools on Fridays in March-April, since our competition robot is complete and operating at its prime during that time frame.

Our current schedule for Robots at Recess is: Friday, March 25 at St. Pat’s White Lake. Friday, April 29 at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic School. Friday, May 6 at Our Lady of Victory School.
